Hey There. It's Nico.

First I want to say Happy New Year! Thank you for reading my blog! I thought it would be fun to share ten facts about moi. If you can relate to any of them I would love to hear from you! Solidarity!

  • My husband is a musician and we met at one of his gigs in 2008. My mother introduced us.
  • I have 5 sisters. 3 Stepsisters and 2 biological sisters.
  • I have terrible night terrors almost every night. The only thing that has helped is completely cutting caffeine out of my diet AND listening to a meditation before I got to bed called, “I am safe.”
  • I am 50% Greek and the other 50% is a mixture, but mostly Scandinavian.
  • My obsession with true crime has led me to my favorite podcast: My Favorite Murder>>.
  • I have a taxidermy tarantula that I got in Santa Fe, NM as a child. I named him Spud and he has been with me for 25 years and countless moves, despite my arachnophobia and frequent night terrors about spiders.
  • My husband and I went to the same high school, but he is 11.5 years older. In fact, he graduated high school with my 8th grade social studies teacher.
  • My biological sisters and I all have different colored hair…to the extreme. I am a strawberry blonde, my middle sister is a dark brunette, and my youngest sister has dark red, curly hair.
  • I have a Mini Australian Shepherd named Babyface Finnster (Finn) who was named after Baby Face Finster from Looney Tunes.
  • When I had my son, I brought my own hospital gown for the occasion. Purchased from Motherhood Maternity>>, looks like a nice comfy black dress with hidden snaps. It’s all about style, am I right?

End of a Decade

The time between Christmas and New Years always seems like the strangest time of year to me. Especially, this year. We are approaching the end of a decade and entering an entirely new one. Pretty exciting stuff, but what does this mean for making New Years resolutions? Go all out and make some “decade” resolutions along side the year 2020 resolutions? I’m thinking why not? Where do I see myself in 10 years? What are my short term goals for 2020 and where do I want to be in 10 years? Ponder that.

I’m going to share with you my favorite New Years Eve tradition that my husband and I have. Each year, we both take small pieces of paper and write one resolution per piece. As many as we want! We put them in a small tin box and tuck it away for the year. Then the next time New Years Eve rolls around, we read the resolutions from the year before, discuss them, and give ourselves a pat on the back for the ones we accomplished. It’s fun to do this together. As a married couple, I also appreciate it in the way it gives us to connect on what our goals are year after year and see that we are still on a path that brings us together. Maybe indulge in a little New Years champagne in front of the fire while we’re at it.

I want to thank you for reading and most importantly wish you a very Happy and Healthy New Year! May all your resolutions become reality!

Hair Hacks

  • When you shower, try to put the shampoo only on the roots of your hair and give yourself a nice scalp massage while you’re at it. Leave the shampoo off the ends of your hair because it can actually dry it out!
  • Likewise, when you shower, put the conditioner only on the ends of your hair. Conditioner is like lotion for your hair and you really don’t need it on the roots as this can make your hair oily faster.
  • On the day you shower, once your hair is dry, use your dry shampoo!!! Using the dry shampoo right away as a preventative will keep your hair fresher longer. Whereas, using the dry shampoo after your hair is already greasy can only do so much…
  • Caster oil is GREAT for your hair. The benefits of caster oil include: moisturizing the scalp, easing dandruff, and leaving your hair smooth and shiny. Also, if you apply caster oil to your scalp it is said to enhance the health of the hair follicles and promote hair growth/prevent hair loss. Caster oil is thick, so how do you apply it? For me, the easiest way is mixing it in with my shampoo and conditioner once a week.

Whats the deal with Wireless Bras?

I have recently become very interested in wireless bras. It all started with some self-reflection and realization. My most favorite bras are still my nursing bras. So, I asked myself: should I get more nursing bras even though I’m not nursing? Is it possible to find an alternative that can offer me both support and comfort?

After some research and poll taking, I found the answer.

Meet, Warner’s Women’s Could 9 Wirefree Contour Lift Bra.

This is a total game changer, my friends. Not only is this bra wireless, it provides support, lift and FRONT strap adjustments. Why did it take so long to get front strap adjustments? That’s something we may never know the answer to. All I can say is that this baby is super comfortable whether you are rockin’ big or small cup sizes. Give it a try!

Commando For Sure

Finding the right underwear is such a tricky thing. I have tried my fair share. As I get older I find that I am not willing to go cheap on my most important item of clothing. Am I right, ladies? While I do love the Hanky Panky brand, the Commando brand far exceeds anything I have tried to date. They are soft, seamless, almost like you’re wearing nothing at all (get it? Commando…). You can’t beat ‘em and I wish more local boutiques carried them. You can order them directly from the Commando website, Nordstrom or Amazon. I have linked my favorite style at Nordstrom >> and Amazon >>.

You’re welcome. 🙂

Denim – It’s a love/hate thing.

Don’t let get denim get you down.  Ladies, we all know jeans can be a real jerk. Good news though! I’m here to share with you some denim brands that will NOT make you want to cry.

Spanx. I never in a million years would have thought of this brand until I became a mom, but I wish I had known about them sooner. That’s right. Spanx are my jam. They are slightly destroyed, very flattering, have tummy control, and feel like you are wearing leggings. Need I say more? I didn’t think so. Spanx Jeans >>

Just Black Denim. These jeans are most like a hybrid of jeans and leggings in that they look like regular jeans, have real pockets, and all that jazz…yet when you’re in them, they have stretch AND are a real contender for your new Thanksgiving dinner pants. Comfort, people. We’re talking style and comfort. These jeans are harder to track down. However, since they are so rad, I feel they are important to mention. Great places to look for them is Poshmark, local boutiques, and Bloomingdales >>.

This is the company website: https://justblackdenim.com/

Finally, there is also the obvious…Hudson Jeans are great! I haven been wearing them for years. They are faithful! I like to get them (and all my pants) high-waisted so I am not constantly pulling up my pants. They have great stretch. I do encourage trying them on first if you haven’t purchased these jeans before so you can figure out your stretch preference and length preference. These jeans vary and there are a lot of style options! Find them at Nordstrom and/or Nordstrom Rack!
