Favorite Fashion Resources

Hey all! I missed a week last week due to being horribly sick with my toddler. I was a slug as I nursed my wounds and healed. Sometimes you just gotta take care of yourself and let a few priorities slide. I’m excited to share with you my favorite fashion resources! As women, I think it is important to share these awesome finds. We all could use a little help or just a little inspiration, ya know?

Pinterest. Whenever I need some inspiration, this is my jam. Sometimes I’ll wonder to myself, “What shoes do I want to wear with my faux leather leggings?” “What is the popular hairstyle for Summer 2020?” “What do I wear with a tulle skirt?” BOOM. Ideas galore.

Poshmark. I love Poshmark. I have nabbed my favorite brands on here for slammin’ deals. Born, Paige, Hudson, Free People, Petunia Pickle Bottom, Michael Kors, etc. Normally, I see a top at Nordstrom or Free People and I find the name of the top and look it up on Poshmark. I find it for way less and I am a happy girl. More than that, my husband is thrilled that I am being so suave.

Nordstrom Trunk Club. Aside from loving everything about Nordstrom in general, sometimes when I need some inspo I hit up Trunk Club. Of late, I scheduled a trunk for some assistance with finding a dress for my sister’s bridal shower as well as other tops for a vacation. I love having someone else pick some stuff out for me. I get to try it on and LOVE when I find items that I wouldn’t have selected for myself.

6pm.com. This. Place. Is. Da. Bomb. This is a great place for deals. This is where I go to get my Born shoes for half the price, my Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bags, my ASIC sneakers, my Paige or Hudson jeans, you name it they probably have it. Also their deal prices fluctuate so you have to strike while the iron is hot!

Amazon. Amazon clothing is a new route of exploration I have embarked upon. If you are careful with reading reviews I do think you can grab some super cute stuff here for a good price. What I like about Amazon is that when you look up an item, they will also list similar items. Lots of options! Good prices!

Local Boutiques. What I love about local Boutiques is the probability of finding some unique items. They are not usually cheap, but they are worth it. Local Boutiques work hard for their reputation, quality, customer service and merchandise. Usually a delightful shopping experience where you can really find some hidden treasures.

Last Minute Style Tips

As a mom, I find there are many days that I just don’t have the time or the energy to put a lot of effort into my “look”. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to look great! I have a few “last minute” style tips that save me when I am running out the door with my boy.

Hair braid. This has come in handy many a time. It doesn’t matter what kind of braid you do. A side braid, a faux mohawk braid, random small braids (one of my favorite looks, tied up), etc. A Braid is cute, and helps distract from the fact that you just ran out the door.

Braid FTW.

Lip stick or lip gloss. Through some sassy lips out there. Distract from the rest of your messy self with a nice lip!

Sunglasses. Sunglasses are always a must have. Just ask Victoria Beckham.

2nd day hair. Don’t care.

Beanies. In the winter only obvi. But a cute beanie has saved a dirty hair day many a time.

3rd day hair = Beanie time.

Hair oils. My favorite hair oil has a beautiful and really strong smell. I put it in my hair and it doubles as perfume as well as a hair revival.

Cute Jacket. I am the queen of throwing on a cute jacket to save an outfit or a bad hair day. A cute jacket saves the day every time.

Quick Tips

I love being able to share quick tips that work for me! So, here ya go, ladies!

  1. My go-to trick for keeping my engagement ring and wedding band diamonds lookin’ fresh to to let them soak in a concoction of liquid dish soap and water. Then I go over them with an old make-up brush and BOOM!
  2. You can buy some super cute clips to make your shoes look fancy (i.e. White House Black Market has cuuute shoe clips!) OR you can grab some clip-on earrings, snap them on your shoes and they will do the same!
  3. When you spill something on your clothes and you don’t have your shout wipes handy, the next go-to method of removing a stain on the fly is this: use a napkin to try to absorb the stain, then get some soda water (and if oil in involved, a squeeze of lemon) and work on that stain. Try to blot the stain, don’t rub or you might spread it. Also, do NOT use any hot water to remove stains. Hot water sets stains.
  4. Spray some of your favorite scent or perfume on some fabric and stick it in your undies drawer. Sounds weird, but a light fresh scent never hurt anyone!

Moms to the Rescue

My son and I were at his Little Gym class. This is a class we go to every week. You get there, they ask all everyone to wash their hands before heading into the gym. My boy and I head over, but something went horribly wrong. I was holding his hands and then all of a sudden he was falling and hit his face on the chair used as a step stool for the kids to reach the sink. I picked him up and tried to look in his mouth and all I saw was blood.

As a mom, I try my hardest not to freak out when he is upset or freaking out because I don’t want to scare him. In my mind though, I was FREAKING OUT! I couldn’t figure out where the blood was coming from. His teeth looked fine. He was sobbing. My mind just froze. I didn’t know what my next step was. Do I leave? How do I help him? I can’t find the blood source so is it worse than I think? Am I ER bound to make sure his jaw is okay? Did I do this to him somehow? Did he trip? Am I a terrible mother? It all happened so fast. Panic panic panic! (Inwardly).

This is where this story gets good. In my moments of being frozen and holding my crying boy, Moms around me came to my rescue. One with a towel to soak up the blood, one with an ice pack, and all with encouraging words and advice. I was not alone.

My boy stopped crying with the ice pack, I was able to see he bit his lip and was probably just a little shaken up. He pulled himself together (way better than I did, as I was trying not to tear up) and went into his class and had a blast.

I’m writing this story here because truthfully, I am still shaken up. I just wanted to hug and squeeze him and have him lay his head on my shoulder so that I could cry and just hold him and know he was okay.

Here is the important take away: be that mom. I want to be the mom that helps a fellow mama out in a moment of panic and brain freeze. I want to let her know that she isn’t alone. I will show up with a towel or some ice or whatever she needs and help her out of that scary moment. I want to tell her that sometimes kids fall down, but it will be okay, and she will be there to pick her child up. I want to let her know that she is doing great and all they need is love.

Be that Mom.

Date Night?

It can be so hard to think of new inspiration for date night. Ya gotta mix things up because it gets old doing the same old same old. If you’ve been in a relationship for a long time, you might experience a date night mental block. I have been with my husband for 12 years so sometimes it is hard to think of something new and fun to do. If you share this struggle, I have dug deep into my memory and recovered some great date night experiences that I hope inspires you!

  1. Go to your local comedy club. Who doesn’t enjoy a laugh?
  2. Try out a new restaurant. Go find some Cuban or Persian food. Try something new!
  3. Night skiing or tubing.
  4. Grown-up arcades (these have a bar). You would be surprised how fun it can be to settle into a game of Mortal Combat, Air Hockey, skee-ball or whatever you fancy. My husband really likes Joust.
  5. Bowling. It’s really fun to bowl at a place like Lucky Strike where you can find a full bar and dinner menu delivered directly to you.
  6. Go find some live music. Check out where your top local cover bands are playing.
  7. My husband and I used to go for an aimless drive, see where we’d end up, then grab some dinner. Sometimes it was a totally different town or a new discovery in our own home town.
  8. Go downtown and visit a local art exhibit with your honey.
  9. Check out your local Zoo, ours has fun activities year-round.
  10. Find a local beer garden and enjoy a laid back time with some grub.
  11. Enjoy an evening hike or bike ride around sunset.
  12. Visit your local winery or distillery and enjoy a tour and a tasting.
  13. Go on a walking ghost tour of your city, or perhaps a walking ghost tour pub crawl!
  14. Take an art class together, my husband and I took pottery together and really enjoyed ourselves.
  15. Take a cooking class together.
  16. Have a game night in, play some checkers, chess, scrabble, mancala, etc. in front of the fireplace. ❤
  17. Embark on a puzzle together. Two heads are better than one.

Signing off!

Moisturizing Forever and Ever

Why why why does Winter have to be so rough on the hands and body? It’s especially rough living in Colorado, a dry climate. Having grown up in a wet climate, like Philly, I see a definite difference. Honestly, I never used a body moisturizer when I lived in Philly. I find, however, that getting older and living in a dry climate forced a change into my moisturizing game.

The first and most important thing is this: always go for the thick lotions. They usually come in a tub. I’m talking your “body butter”, “body yogurt”, and moisturizing “creams”.

My favorite reasonably priced moisturizers:

Aveeno Active Naturals Daily Moisturizing Body Naturals Apricot and Honey Lotion>>. This body lotion intensely moisturizes and nourishes dry skin for up to 48 hours. This is for real. The moisturizer stayed on my skin until my next shower.

Body Boost Milk & Honey Stretch Mark Butter>>. I used this lotion my entire pregnancy and it was wonderful. I have no stretch marks. I put it on every single day after my shower. Bonus: you don’t have to be pregnant to benefit from it. This bad boy is for stretch mark prevention and repair, stopping itching and healing dry skin.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream for Dry/Sensitive Skin, Fragrance Free>>. This lotion was recommended to me by my dermatologist who treated my skin cancer. This stuff is great if you have sensitive skin (which I do). Hydrates for 24 hours, so not as long lasting as the Aveeno up there, but still great to have on hand.

Now, if you have any suggestions for dry, cracking, bleeding hands…Please let me know!

Blow Dry Faster!

I have to post this follow up to my Thick, Fine hair… a blessing and a curse>> post. I have discovered a brush for blow drying that rocks my world.

My hair stylist was blow drying my hair one fine day. I noticed my hair was drying much faster than usual. Since this never happens, I had to ask. What is this magical brush? Turned out to be a Wet Brush paddle brush for blow drying. This baby can withstand the heat of a professional blow dryer and has a vented back, dramatically reducing blow dry time! BOOM!

As you already know, Wet Brush brushes are my very favorite. I was super excited to learn of this Wet Brush for blow drying. Check this bad boy out here>>.

Happy Drying!
